GREEN (Growing Resilient and Energy Efficiency Neighbourhoods Ltd.) is a co-operative society registered with the Financial Services Authority under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 (registration number 31501R). The organisation’s first share offer (which closed on 31 January 2012) raised over £30,000 from over 60 individuals and organisations throughout London to invest in small-scale renewable energy projects.

GREEN’s mission is: To initiate, develop and support projects that address environmental and social justice issues in East London and to promote co-operative ways of working between member organisations.

It has the following objectives:

  • To provide a fund raising vehicle for profitable social enterprises that help achieve our mission, in particular through the issuing of community shares.
  • To enable local residents to invest in, and have a democratic say in the development of, new environmental/social justice initiatives in their area.
  • To enable co-operative ways of working between environmental and social justice groups in East London.
  • To encourage activities that build community resilience, alleviate climate change and promote sustainable economic growth.

GREEN has been formed as multi-stakeholder co-operative using the model rules of Somerset Co-operative Services and includes user members and non-user members. User members include organisations that provide ongoing services to the co-operative. At present, there are four founding user members: OrganicLeaForest Recycling Project, The Hornbeam Centre and The HEET Project. Non-user members include investors in the co-operative.

GREEN’s registered address is Hornbeam Centre, 458 Hoe St, Walthamstow, London, E17 9AH.
